Food Poisoning PDF Print E-mail
 Even if you're not going to India, the Delhi belly plague can strike at any time. Don't think that because you're visiting a "developed" country, you're safe from food poisoning - you're not. Stomach upsets or food poisoning can happen anywhere. To try and combat problems of Delhi belly below, try the following;
  • Break yourself into spicy foods if you're not accustomed to them.
  • Wash your hands prior to eating.
  • Buy bottled water, boil water first or use water purification tablets.
  • Avoid ice cubes.
  • Try to avoid raw fruit and vegetables unless you've washed or peeled them yourself.
  • Eat only fresh, piping hot food.

And if you do get food poisoning

  • Rest.
  • Drink plenty of (safe) water.
  • Try a rehydration tablet.
  • Visit a doctor after 48 hours if symptoms have not gone away.
  • Start eating only plain, light foods when you do feel better - like dry toast.
