Europe
729761_ibiza_sunsets.jpgEurope contains some of the best architecture in the world. It also has dazzling beaches, cosmopolitan cities and varied scenery, north, south, east and west. Over 30 countries form Europe so the difficulty lies in where to visit. For the best cities try Paris, London, Dubrovnik, Berlin, Athens or Rome.

In general, Eastern Europe is far cheaper and less "discovered" than Western or Northern Europe, but is fast catching up and countries such as Slovakia and Romania are becoming increasingly popular. You could even nip across to Morocco as part of a European trip.

In Spring visit the alpine wildflowers and mountains of the Arctic Circle, Summer give it large in Ibiza, Autumn, hike through Germany's beautiful black forests and Winter ski in Austria. 700244_high_mountains_2.jpg

The whole of Europe is pretty easy to get around. We love travelling by rail. Visit Rail Europe to find out prices. The train network country to country is good, it's fast and far more entertaining than travelling on a low-frills airline. Seat61 also offers huge amounts of information on getting around by train.

Skiing and snowboarding opportunities are a big draw to visit Europe. Try the Pyrenees in Eastern Andorra, Chamonix in France, Val d'Aosta in Italy or for something slightly different the Sierra Nevada in Southern Spain.

714750_ancient_rome_3.jpgWhat else can I do apart from travel?

Learning a language is the first choice. Pick from French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Greek. The list is endless.

As well as improving language skills, work is also much easier to find here if you are a British citizen as you can work up to three months without any kind of permit. After three months, you have to visit the town hall or police station to pick up a residence visa (pretty easy to obtain if you have a British passport and employer) The main sources of casual income includes fruit picking and bar work. Visit our Work in Europe section to find out more.
